What’s new

Everdust ships on several devices, each on its own schedule. Every release that reaches a store gets a line here: what’s new, what we fixed, and where to get it.

  1. iPhone · iPadVersion 1.1

Night Sky on iPhone and iPad (iPhone and iPad 1.1)

    • Night Sky: hold your phone up and see the real sky where you are, right now: stars, planets, the Moon and the Milky Way where they really are, lined up with true north. Drag to look around, pinch to zoom, slide through tonight's hours.
    • Fly into the wonders: tap the Orion Nebula, the Pillars of Creation, Andromeda, the Crab Nebula, the Magellanic Clouds and more, and fly into real photographs from Hubble, Webb and other observatories, given depth. Each world downloads the first time you visit it.
    • Find it from Tonight's Sky, or in Tools, where you can pin it.
    • Our Solar System's planets now wear their real maps: Hubble's Jupiter and Saturn, NASA's Earth, Mars and Mercury.
    • Fixes a crash on launch on older iPads, a tighter first chapter of The Story of Everything, steadier AirPlay from a Mac, and a more reliable Create.
    • Still no ads and no account.

  2. AndroidVersion 1.0.8

Night Sky on Android (Android 1.0.8)

    • Night Sky: hold up your phone to see the real sky over you, with stars, planets and what's up tonight.
    • Fly into 69 nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and black holes, made from real telescope photographs. Each downloads the first time you visit.
    • Eclipses and transits, star cards and a passport of the wonders you've visited.
    • The Laser Show, Laser Cathedral and five more pendulums.
    • Fixes black screens on older phones. If a scene stays dark, Everdust offers Simple graphics.

Released in stages from November 6; out to everyone since November 7.

  3. Apple Vision ProVersion 1.1

Night Sky, a new home and a rebuilt Laser Show (Apple Vision Pro 1.1)

    • Night Sky: the real night sky all around you, from home or from the darkest places on Earth. Look at a planet, the Sun or a distant wonder and pinch to fly there. Run time faster or backward, leave star trails, find a constellation or see the aurora.
    • Deep-sky wonders: real photographs from Webb, Hubble, ESO and other observatories, given depth so you can fly into them, from the Pillars of Creation to the Crab Nebula. Each wonder's Learn card says when it's up tonight from where you are, and credits its photographs.
    • Hold a nebula in your hands and turn it while the sky stays still, or grab Saturn, Jupiter or another planet. A new Sun from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, and a new Betelgeuse.
    • Solar System to Scale: walk out from the Sun to Neptune with every size and distance true.
    • A new home: every world behind doors for Night Sky, Play, Stories, Music Visualizers and more, with Start here on your first visit. Prefer the old layout? Classic home and Classic controls are in the ⋯ menu.
    • The Laser Show, rebuilt: lasers all around and above you play to your music, and nothing strobes.
    • Calm tools: guided rest (NSDR), now also as a slow drift down a glowing river, plus breathing, a sleep timer and a focus timer.
    • Also new: a small ? in every world shows what your hands can do, A Handful is free all the way to its end, and pendulums come in 3D with ribbons of light. Fixed: the Black Hole Golf pinch holds, and Play from your phone comes back after you leave the app.

  4. iPhone · iPadVersion 1.0.1

Everdust is on iPhone and iPad (iPhone and iPad 1.0.1)

First release on the App Store.

    • Space games you play with your fingers, built on real physics, with levels, stars to earn and a free daily level: Feed the Black Hole, Lightfold, Comet Rider, Black Hole Golf and more. Black Hole Hockey, Jet Versus and Murmuration Duet are for two players, on one screen or across two phones laid end to end.
    • Narrated science stories, from the first light after the Big Bang to a giant star going supernova. Every chapter is a live simulation you can play with. All of The Story of Everything is free.
    • Tonight's Sky: the Moon, the planets, meteor showers, the space station passing over, the aurora forecast and the clouds, in plain words.
    • Calm: a sleep timer, breathing guides, a focus timer with a Live Activity on your Lock Screen, and guided NSDR (non-sleep deep rest).
    • A universe simulator in your hands: a galaxy collision of up to about a million stars, and black holes that bend light. Touch toys too, such as Black Hole in Your Palm, Stir the Stars and Lightning in a Jar.
    • Every scene can move with music: a song from Files, the room, or music played to it from another iPhone, iPad or Mac. The sound is analyzed on your device and never recorded or sent.
    • Create: step into the universe as particles with the selfie camera on iPhone, turn a photo into a field of particles, walk into famous paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, Hokusai and others, or describe a scene and let AI design it (uses Create credits).
