Strange Attractors · IV
Hidden Attractors
Chaotic flows drawn as threads inside a glowing ring: Conch, NE17, NE16 and SE8, one after another (all four around you on Vision Pro). Seeds drop into the ring and you watch whether the chaos catches them.
Drag to look around; touch things to play with them.
- The idea
- Most strange attractors can be found by starting next to an unstable resting point of the equations. These four are hidden: three have no resting point at all, and SE8's only one is stable, so it pulls nearby seeds in instead of throwing them onto the chaos. Conch comes from our own computer search; NE16, NE17 and SE8 are from papers by Jafari, Sprott, Molaie and Golpayegani (2013). A seed takes the exhibit's color when it is caught, turns gold if it settles on the still point, and fades if it flies away.
- With music
- This one runs on its own equations and does not move with the music. Tap Demo beat for our own beat, or Your music to let it hear the room.
- How it runs
- It’s the same live simulation as in the Everdust apps, running in your browser on WebGL 2. If your device struggles, it lowers the detail a step at a time to keep the motion smooth.
